The alarm bell is ringing, to sleep you are clinging
Through rainbows some kids drew your stare
They’ll send you outdoors with their war metaphors
But no masks, no protection, no care
If they can’t put a price on the things that you do
They’ll take you for granted instead
And clapping each week the hypocrisy reeks
But the rest of us know what’s unsaid

Key worker, key worker it’s time to stand tall
Rise up and somehow face the day
They say you're the front line in this pandemic time
But in fact it’s always been that way
Back in the day, ah they’d all love to say
We’re all clever and classless and free
But your wage packet shrank, the economy tanked
And you wondered, do they really mean me?
The streets still need sweeping and shelves they need stacking
And people get sick and need care
Now rich folk come running, their promises keep coming
But still nothing, nobody there

Key worker, key worker it’s time to stand tall
Rise up and somehow face the day
They say you're the front line in this pandemic time
But in fact it’s always been that way
Now here’s a thought as we’re on life support
You were targets so rich in their sights
They won their campaigns with their kleptocrat games
But now the reality bites
They bailed out their mates when in dire straits
And they’ll try to do it once more
So until we fight and stand up for our rights
There’s no chance to show them the door.
